Zambezi, Hungry Man Release Another Awkward fruitwater Spot

Last month, vitaminwater’s fruitwater  brand got a little weird with Christina Applegate in the first of its new ads in a campaign created by Venice agency Zambezi and production studio Hungryman.

Today the company released its follow-up, another entry in the “painfully awkward” genre. Here’s “Decoy”:

In Not Really Related but Still Interesting news, the “advocacy group” Truth in Advertising is NOT happy with the recently proposed settlement in the class action suit filed against the vitaminwater company. Seems that quite a few people took issue with the fact that the brand promoted its product as a healthy alternative to soda (or “nutrient-enhanced water beverage”) when, in fact, the average bottle contains more sugar than a candy bar.

The group doesn’t like the fact that the proposed settlement “consists solely of meaningless injunctive relief and $1.2 million in attorneys’ fees,” and they filed an amicus brief opposing it.

Note that the September press release for this campaign simply describes the product as “a great-tasting, naturally fruit flavored, zero calorie sparkling water beverage.” Good work, Coca-Cola PR!

The series will soon see a third spot. We predict that it will be odd.
