We’ve spoken to industry friends and received several tips from different spies over the past week that Chuck McBride is closing up shop early next year at Cutwater, the SF shop perhaps most recently of Ray-Ban tattoo-on-face viral fame. The hearsay culminated into this sad, straightforward tip received yesterday: “Cutwater is closing….we have five weeks left.”
From what sources are telling us, the aforementioned agency’s founder/CCO is looking to start up his own indie shop and Jan. 15 looks like the approximate date for Cutwater to shut down. We emailed the agency directly and have yet to hear back, but from what AS is hearing, it isn’t looking good for the once-venerable operation. We’ll keep you posted.
