Wait, That’s Not Baratunde Thurston…

By Bob Marshall

The “Zenga” typo‘s got nothing on this. First spotted by SapientNitro PR manager Katy Zack (among others), the above image comes from the latest issue of Adweek. It is supposed to be a photo of The Onion‘s digital director and comedian Baratunde Thurston. Only, if you’ve ever seen Mr. Thurston, you know that’s not what he looks like. So, what happened here?

A Google image search of “Baratunde Thurston” accidentally brings up a picture of L.A comic Barsha Ray as the third photo from the Black Comedy Competition 2007 website. In Adweek‘s defense, at least they used Google this time around. Thurston’s responded on Twitter after being shown the gaffe with “‘I LOVE being baratunde’ is what I imagine this dude is thinking :D” Adweek, thus far, has been silent on the issue.
