U.S. President Seth Solomons Out at R/GA

Seth Solomons, the president of U.S. operations for R/GA, is no longer with the agency as of today.

Sources close to the matter tell us that founder Bob Greenberg broke the news this morning, and a spokesperson for the agency confirms that Solomons will not be a member of the R/GA team, effective immediately:

“Seth Solomons and R/GA have mutually decided to part ways. The R/GA organization wishes him the best of luck in his next endeavor and thanks him for all his contributions.”

The move comes just over a month after Solomon’s promotion to the position of U.S. president; he joined the agency in January 2014 to serve as EVP, managing director of the New York office and global chief client services officer.

Solomons arrived at R/GA from the client side of the marketing equation. Prior to his hiring, he served as a consultant to the global CMO at Samsung (which is an R/GA client), and the press release announcing his arrival last year noted that he “drove strategy for Samsung.com with R/GA.”

He also brought more than 20 years of marketing experience to the agency. Before joining R/GA, he “led innovation and strategic partnership efforts for Bob Lord, Global CEO of both Razorfish and DigitasLBi” (who left in 2013 to join the AOL organization). He spent a dozen years with Digitas, most prominently serving as the agency’s CMO, and eight years at Wunderman, where he was SVP and account director. More recently, Solomons was CEO of marketing software provider CRM365.

In the EVP role at R/GA, Solomons’ responsibilities included client services as well as “analytics, planning, CRM, media and digital on a global scale.” He was promoted to president of U.S. operations in June, though the agency did not make a formal announcement at that time.

We can only speculate as to why Greenberg let Solomons go only a month after his promotion. The agency had no comment regarding its plans to find and appoint a successor.
