Tips Make the Ad-world go Round

By Matt Van Hoven

Good morning, ad-world. We thought about you as we lay our head down last night. As our mind got drowsy, we couldn’t help but wonder what would be in store for you today. Indeed, it’s been a rough couple of weeks, rife with layoffs and fear of layoffs and all that crap.

We’ve been there. Unemployment sucks, but the important thing is to look at the bright side &#151 now that you’re not working for those assholes anymore, you can finally tell us all those secrets you’d been holding in. For you and your still-working amigos, we’ve put together some tips for tipping us off to the BS you’ve been privy to.

It’s easy enough to do; e-mail Superspy at superspyin@gmail dot com, or me at matt@mediabistro dot com/agencyspy@mediabistro dot com. We also created a tip line, the number for which is 212.547.7935 (just be sure to speak clearly and leave us enough info to work with). We have AIM, too &#151 AgencySpy and SuperSpyin will get you to either of us, and you can follow us on Twitter the same way &#151 AgencySpy and SuperSpyin.

Let’s not forget about the tried-and-true tips box. That’s probably the easiest way for you to give us info, but be sure to include as many details as you feel comfortable divulging &#151 so we can be accurate in our reporting.

Each of these methods will get you directly to us. But wait, what about anonymity? For those of you who aren’t out of work, we want you to keep your jobs. You’ve probably heard rumors that your employer has upped the ante on watching who you’re talking to. And though we can’t prove or disprove such behaviors, if you follow our simple instructions, you shouldn’t have any issues.

You’re sitting at work, when you get an e-mail saying your agency just won new business. You want to tell us about it, but obviously, forwarding that e-mail to us would leave a trail right back to your desk. What to do…

Pick up the phone, and tell us about it! We’re always up for hearing good news (well, all news really), and if you simply drop us a hint, we’ll follow up with your agency. Since we “man” the phone during normal biz hours, you can tell us about the news without even saying your name &#151 though the more you give us about the story, the better it will turn out. If you’re feeling really brave, take a screen shot of the e-mail, send it to your personal account and forward it to us from there.

We’re not here to call out our sources. On the contrary, we work to build relationships with you, to make you feel comfortable and secure. AgencySpy is for the people &#151 and the people we will protect.

Post any questions about tipping below, and we’ll respond to them ASAP. Of course, always feel free to e-mail us and use the tips box, too.
