The Gecko Waves Goodbye to Glenn Beck

By Kiran Aditham

GEICO is the latest advertiser to pull ads from Glenn Beck’s show on Fox News following similar moves from competitor Progressive as well as Procter & Gamble, Lawyers.com and SC Johnson. The Beck boycott stems from an effort by the group ColorofChange.org to pressure advertisers to pull spots from the host’s show after he called President Obama a “racist”.

Our sister blog, TVNewser, though, received word from Fox indicating “that the advertisers simply moved their spots from Beck to other programs on the network, ‘so there has been no revenue lost.'”

In a statement, GEICO seemed to reiterate Fox’s comment, saying:

“On Tuesday, August 4, GEICO instructed its ad buying service to redistribute its inventory of rotational spots on FOX-TV to their other network programs, exclusive of the Glenn Beck program. As of August 4, GEICO no longer runs any paid advertising spots during Mr. Beck’s program.”
