TBWA\Paris and McDonald’s Try to Convince Us They’re From New York

By Patrick Coffee

Did you know that everyone in France refers to McDonald’s as “McDo” or “MacDo?” You probably did, but we still find it amusing. Whatever.

Last week the people at 72andSunny proved their New York-ness by checking out all of the pretzel carts in the general proximity of their East Side office in a new spot promoting Carl’s Jr.’s new pretzel-based thing.

Now TBWA\Paris has its own take on the city where we live for a different sort of fast food client. We had to watch an agency from Paris do their best impression of New York, so here goes.

Someone loves Law & Order reruns.

Did we miss when McDonald’s changed its European tagline to a Nirvana song and positioned itself as a safe space for young gay people, or…?

Next we have another New York cliche: sexy firemen!

They didn’t even really try for the accent.

Good thing Americans don’t make too many ads set in Paris. That would be very embarrassing!
