TBWA\Chiat\Day Tackles Post-Binge Watching Depression for Netflix

By Erik Oster

TBWA\Chiat\Day launched a new spot tackling the issue of post-binge watching depression for Netflix.

In the spot, a woman finishes binge watching a show and is beside herself with grief, saying “I feel like I just lost my best friend.” The man next to her replies, “Well you didn’t, I’m right here,” but she’s inconsolable. He spends the remainder of the ad rattling off a list of other shows the two could watch next, but she’s too broken up about the last show to consider any of them until the ad’s conclusion. The approach is very relatable, as members of Netflix and other streaming services are likely very familiar with the problem of that empty feeling immediately following viewing the final episode of a show they’ve been bingeing. That the approach may speak more to those who already have the service is tempered somewhat by the friend rattling off a long list of shows offered by Netflix as candidates for the next show.
