TBWA Vet Fabio Costa Heads to Saatchi & Saatchi L.A.

Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles added two executives to its creative team with the appointments of Fabio Costa as an executive creative director and Dwayne Koh as a digital executive creative director.

You may recall that Costa left TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles last December and announced that he planned to take a short break from the ad industry altogether. At the time, he told us that he might just be the happiest man alive if he could manage to “squeeze in a month or two of Seinfeld-quality nothing.” That period didn’t last long; he begins his new job immediately, reporting to Saatchi L.A. chief creative officer Jason Schragger.

Costa joined TBWA as an executive creative director back in August of 2012 and worked with clients such as adidas, Disney, The Grammy’s, Google, Grey Goose, Miller Lite and Energizer while with the agency. Prior to that he spent around a year and a half with The Martin Agency as a senior vice president/group creative director leading work on Comcast and Mentos. Earlier in his career he spent a year at Ogilvy & Mather as a partner/creative director working on Louis Vuitton and Perrier in addition to creative director gigs at Cutwater, OgilvyOne, Blast Radius and Almap BBDO.

“Fabio couldn’t be joining our team at a better time,” said Schragger. “He has an unparalleled portfolio of work and his groundbreaking creativity, global perspective and boundless passion are invaluable to an agency that is evolving and growing as we are. We’re thrilled to have him on our side as we forge a new path and continue to make unforgettable work for our clients that reflect this level of game changing talent.”

Koh joins Saatchi from AKQA San Francisco, where he served as a group creative director for a year and a half and led the shop’s creative efforts for Levi’s, Jordan and Visa. As with Costa, he reports to Schragger effective immediately. Prior to joining AKQA, he served as a group creative director with TBWA Shanghai for over three and a half years, contributing to campaigns for General Electric, Absolut, Noblish, Coach and Adidas Originals. That followed a year as a creative director with W+K Shanghai leading Coca-Cola and Converse and three years as a CD and department head with Saatchi & Saatchi Beijing.

“Dwayne’s a deeply multidisciplinary and global creative who brings 17 years of unparalleled experience to Saatchi LA,” Schragger said. “His ability to work across various digital channels makes him an invaluable contributor in terms of driving integration across our business. His experience and explorative nature has taken him to work at the best agencies around the world, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the Saatchi team.”

The release does not clarify which accounts Saatchi’s two newest creative leaders will handle.
