TBWA Animates Top Disruptor Jean-Marie Dru’s Development from Sperm to Super Genius

By Patrick Coffee

Did you attend last night’s 67th Annual Advertising Hall of Fame event honoring Dan Wieden, Peggy Conlon, Roy Spence, Jean-Marie Dru and more?*

Probably not. You had other things to do like hit up the PS4 and catch Better Call Saul, which is completely understandable. But Lee Clow introduced Mr. Dru, who is already in the Advertising Hall of Fame as an industry leader and author of such titles as “Disruption,” “Beyond Disruption” and “How Disruption Brought Order.”

The agency also produced an animated film with an appropriately French voiceover to accompany the induction ceremony.

Seems this guy has been disrupting things since, like, before he was even born.

He was an athlete who dreamed of replacing Brian Jones? Mr. Dru does it all! If nothing else, he proves that one can go from accounts to planning to creative direction to president with no bumps along the road.

We look forward to more disruption in the future–and we have a feeling that Mr. Dru is just as tired as we are of hearing his favorite word grossly overused and abused by the tech world every single damn day.

As every copywriter knows, you can only repeat a given thing so many times before it becomes a glaring sign of your own incompetence.

*An earlier version of this post confused the Advertising Hall of Fame with the Marketing Hall of Fame. We do not in any way regret the error.
