SVP of Planning Leaves R/GA for Big Spaceship

R/GA vet and SVP of Planning Andrea Ring has left that agency for fellow New York digital shop Big Spaceship, where she will be chief strategy officer.

Ring joined R/GA as an associate planning director in 2005 after spending a couple of years as a senior planner at J. Walter Thompson New York. She proceeded to move up within the organization and the agency promoted her in February to the SVP of planning role, where she reported directly to founder Bob Greenberg and New York Managing Director Seth Solomons. From the release via Solomons:

“With almost a decade of experience at R/GA, Andrea’s strengths enables her to accurately diagnose the strategic opportunity and curate the right team of planners to come up with the best insight and creative solution. Because everything we do is insight-led from building systems to telling stories, planning plays a crucial role in not only defining and refining what our clients say, but what they do.”

(At the time of her promotion, R/GA also hired Graham Phillips, formerly of BBDO, Silver+Partners and JWT, among others, to serve as managing director of insights and planning.)

Ring, who was named one of the “most creative women in advertising” for 2014 by Business Insider, is not the first R/GA employee to make the same move in recent months. Vinny DiBartolo, who also spent more than seven years with R/GA and served as the agency’s senior technical director, left to become head of tech at Big Spaceship in February.

Ring tells us:

“I see endless potential with Big Spaceship. They are extremely smart, fun, and nice. Big Spaceship is the perfect size and has the right mix of talent to make amazing, modern things for clients.”

The agency’s most recent work of note was the “GIF-powered,” remix-worthy “That New Phone Feeling” campaign for Samsung, which launched last month.
