State Farm’s Newest Pitchmen: Weezer

By Kiran Aditham

As indie snobs will no doubt continue to bitch and moan that Weezer has never recaptured the glory of their debut or even better follow-up, Pinkerton, we’re sure Rivers Cuomo & Co. aren’t doing themselves any favors with those elitist pricks by whipping up this jingle for State Farm. Whatever, let them continue to gripe as we actually dig this brief ditty that has all the power-pop goodness that we’ve come to expect from this group (but have been sadly left without in recent years).

According to Paste, the story goes that the insurance company asked Weezer to re-record their theme song and when Cuomo pressed them to find out if there was more to the jingle than eight little words, State Farm found a complete version of the tune in their “vault.”

We know it’s been out for a few days, but what the hell, it offers us some nice, quick respite from the day and at the very least, is better than anything that smug pitchman is selling us in the State Farm TV spots these days.
