Staffing Changes at Erwin Penland, MEC and More

New York/South Carolina-based Erwin Penland announced three new additions to its creative team.

Steve Rodriguez will serve as SVP/creative services director. He will help CCO Con Williamson run the creative department and contribute to hiring, staffing allocation, work assignments and other general operations concerns. He most recently served as director of creative services and talent at Saatchi & Saatchi and has worked in similar production/project management roles at Anomaly, BBH and KBS+.

Kristofer Delaney and Danny McHatton will both serve as VP/creative directors, effective immediately. The two will work primarily on the Denny’s and Verizon accounts, reporting to SVP/ECD John Cornette. Delaney joins the agency from Digitas New York, where he worked on the American Express account as a freelance CD. Prior agency experience includes a three-year stint as ACD/art director at BBDO NY as well as time spent in design at Ogilvy, Publicis, W+K and Starbucks.

McHatton most recently worked as a freelance ACD at Publicis; his past positions include copywriting gigs at mcgarrybowen, TracyLocke and Energy BBDO.

Los Angeles’ Threshold Interactive has hired former Apple writer Julie Gordon as its new creative director.

The headline of the press release notes the two years Gordon spent as an in-house copywriter at Apple in the early 00’s; since then, she founded her own agency called 16 Stars in addition to writing copy at Tribal Worldwide DDB. She also served as VP/ACD at Deutsch L.A. from 2009 to 2012 and most recently directed creative for Los Angeles agency Pitch, where clients included Burger King and Pinkberry. Here’s her online portfolio.

MEC hired Marie-Claire Barker as its first ever global chief talent officer. Before the hire, Barker spent more than twelve years within the Ogilvy organization; she held the CTO role at Ogilvy from 2009 to the present after serving as the agency’s VP of human resources.

Chicago-based “global brand activation agency” The Marketing Store hired Carlos Garavito as VP/creative director in its Toronto office.

Garavito brings an extensive agency history to the role: he previously served as Vision7 International’s North American CCO, and his resume notes time spent in creative roles at MacLaren McCann, OgilvyOne, Cossette and others. His portfolio includes work for brands such as Coca-Cola, Intel, MasterCard and GM. At TMS, he will “help lead consumer engagement and CRM” for various clients.
