Splinter Cell Campaign Almost Earns a Cap in the Ass

New Zealand might not have a problem with sizeable manhood billboards, but the country has to even draw the line with a Splinter Cell campaign that almost got a guy shot. According to the New Zealand Herald, a gun-toting man who was working promotions for the Splinter Cell: Conviction game prompted 20 or so boozers outside of the Degree bar in Auckland’s Viaduct Basin to duck for cover and police to shoot on Friday when seeing he was wielding a black imitation pistol. Degree manager Steph Kurtovich tells the trade, “This guy with bandages on his hands pointed a gun at customers sitting outside. They were pretty terrified.”

The “promotion” comes courtesy of Monaco Corporation, which is a marketing partner of Ubisoft and regrets the error, telling NZH, “We do apologize, we shouldn’t have had guns down there. It was just marketing gone wrong.” Consumerist adds that Monaco had no idea a gun would be used and that they subcontracted out this stunt to another marketer.
