Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen of Portlandia star in Chandelier Creative’s new holiday spot for Old Navy, which arrives closely on the heels of the agency’s “Snoopin’ Around Black Friday spot with Snoop Dogg, Kumail Nanjiani and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
“Kids Table” finds the comedic duo banished from the grown-up table at a holiday party. “You guys don’t know how to do this, do you?” asks a young boy (who appears to be the same child actor that played Dreyfus’ son in this year’s back-to-school effort) before advising the two to step up their style for the holidays as a well-dressed couple arrives and is immediately seated with the other adults. Feeling bad for them, he explains what they need to do get out of kids table limbo: “Go to Old Navy, pick out some clothes that scream holidays and, bam, you’re in.” Taking his advise, the ad ends with the requisite (apparently) run to the store, with the two heading to Old Navy to pick up some holiday clothes.
While the humor doesn’t quite land as intended, and the ad drags at nearly two minutes, “Kids Table” does bring a welcome change of pace by mixing in Brownstein and Armisen. Following the two guest stars in the agency’s latest effort, it seems like Chandelier mixing up their creative direction with some fresh faces.
As for Chandelier Creative, we know what they’ll be doing for the holidays: heading to Japan.
