One Lucky Australian Student Will Win a Trip to New York to See David Droga’s Student Portfolio

By Patrick Coffee

Oh hey, so, did you know that Droga5 is doing alright these days? That’s what all our inside sources and New York Times fashion writers tell us.

AWARD School of Sydney, which is “a special 12 week course run by the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association for people who want to become copywriters or art directors in the advertising industry,” is using founder David Droga‘s recent success to get more people to enroll.

This year, the top winner of that program (entries here) will win a trip to meet Droga himself in his agency’s New York City headquarters.

Here’s a closer look at the art, which is relevant because Droga graduated from the same program 30 years ago.

That ad was directed by Cam Blackley, ECD of BMF Australia, who is a veteran of the now-closed Droga5 Sydney office.

Here’s the most important part of the whole deal via Campaign Brief:

“The winner of this year’s AWARD School will be the only person in the last 29 years to see the winning portfolio that landed Droga his big break at OMON. And as they say, the rest is history.”

Exclusive! Droga finished AWARD School in 1987, the very year that magazine published its first issue. And so of course they had to include this image:

Good luck to all applicants. But the odds are against you, even if you win.
