OMD Welcomes New CDO, Social Lead

By Kiran Aditham

Omnicom media unit OMD has appointed Rivers Cuomo doppelganger Ben Winkler as its new U.S. chief digital officer. Winkler, who assumes his new title on May 9, arrives from IPG’s Initiative,  where he spent the last two years as SVP, director of digital and oversaw interactive marketing efforts and digital programs for clients including Bayer, USAA and Hitachi. Prior to Initiative, Winkler spent well over four years at the Martin Agency, where he served as VP/director, interactive media.

On the social media front, OMD has tapped Colin Sutton to serve as U.S. director of its WOM practice, Word. Sutton joins from Group M unit M80 and most recently was part of the team involved with the decision to release VW’s ever-so-popular “Force” Super Bowl ad days before the big game. The end result of “the decision?” The ad accumulated 12.5 million views, 10,000 comments and 62,000 Facebook likes  fours hours before the Super Bowl started. So, guess he some reason to boast? Anyhow, Sutton’s other clients during his time at M80 included Audi and Microsoft.
