Ogilvy Mexico Disqualified from Press Grand Prix, AlmapBBDO Wins Instead

Whoops, looks like Ogilvy Mexico got busted by the Cannes cops as the agency was ruled ineligible for the Cannes Press Grand Prix after it was discovered that their winning Scrabble campaign was previously entered.

According to Adweek, which apparently was the deep throat behind this Cannes kerfuffle, Ogilvy Mexico creative director Jose Montalvo said the entry rules were confusing and that his agency thought it could enter the Scrabble work again since it wasn’t shortlisted last year.

The Cannes Press Grand Prix now instead goes to AlmapBBDO Sao Paulo for its Billboard print campaign that included the likes of Marilyn Manson, Eminem and Bono. Well, at least Ogilvy Mexico now knows how Milli Vanilli feels.
