New Hires and Departures in David&Goliath’s Creative Department

By Patrick Coffee

Last November, we learned that proud little-guy agency David&Goliath was restructuring its creative department after swiping the Jack in the Box from Secret Weapon.

The biggest change was the addition of Bobby Pearce, formerly with m:united, and the promotions of GCDs Ben Purcell and Steve Yee to ECD level.

At the time, David Angelo told us that the hiring spree wasn’t over–and that was true.

The agency does not appear to have chosen its fourth ECD at the moment, but sources close to the matter tell us it did hire a group of new creatives while parting ways with several others.

  • First, GCD Dino Spadavecchia left D&G to go full-time freelance. He’s done quite a bit of freelance work in the past in addition to spending time at Leo Burnett, GS&P and Saatchi L.A., and he recently added a new member to his family.
  • Creative directors Chris Hutchinson and Driscoll Reid, who joined the shop as a team in 2014, have gone in different directions. The former is now a CD with 72andSunny while the latter’s plans are unclear.
  • Around the same time, D&G parted ways with a group of approximately three junior creatives who, we hear, did not quite sync with agency leadership.

Beyond these departures, though, the creative department has actually grown since we last heard news on the staffing front. Recent additions to the David&Goliath team include:

  • CD/Copywriter James Cohen, most recently with Translation
  • Digital CD Yo Umeda, formerly with MAL and m:united
  • ACD Devin Heatley, formerly with R/GA
  • Senior art directors Geo Panchame, Bernice Chao and Matt Koulermos, who held similar positions at 72andSunny, TBWA and WONGDOODY, respectively
  • Senior copywriter Nick Micale, who arrived from 160over90
  • Art director Danny O’Connor
  • Copywriters Chase Doutre (RTO+P) and Kurt Warner (Chicago’s TRISECT)

As before, expect more hiring news to come. We hear that D&G will name its fourth and (for now) final ECD in the weeks ahead.
