MZ Advertising Starts Blog Dedicated to Fast Food

By Bob Marshall

Last January, longtime Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s AOR Mendelsohn Zien lost its beloved fast-food account to El Segundo, CA-based D&G (who promptly lost the account last month). Since losing CKE Restaurants, Mendelsohn Zien has renamed itself “MZ Advertising” and launched its own fast food blog, “Restaurant Catch-Up.” The blog aims to “contain commentary on the latest sales trends, news, marketing programs, advertising campaigns and new products, as well as quirky and fun stories.”

As agency president and CEO Richard Zien says in a press release, “Restaurants are in our DNA…We hope to build a virtual community of people interested in, and who appreciate, the restaurant business.”

Though the release also says that the blog launched “recently,” a look back shows that the blog’s first post happened all the way back in April. Could we be getting a press release now because MZ feels like it might get another shot at CKE through PR like this? Though CKE reportedly “expanded” its relationship with 72andSunny last month, does MZ think it can still lure at least part of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s back into the fold? Your move, CKE.
