Former Y&R North America/Y&R Brands CMO Mitchell Caplan will take on the same post at McCann Erickson North America, the latter agency announced today.

Though Caplan and his new employer are still working out a definitive start date, the exec will be based out of New York when he assumes the CMO role, which is a newly created position at McCann. Caplan will report directly to McCann NA president Robert LePlae and be responsible for leading marketing strategy and business development for McCann NA, working with the agency’s leadership in New York, as well as McCann West and McCann Midwest.

Before joining McCann, Caplan as you may remember was pulled from his desk job at Y&R to spend several months serving as the overseer of the WPP transition team that moved Dell’s $1.5B account from more than 800 agency relationships into WPP. He later played a key role as WPP moved from a single agency relationship structure to positioning Y&R Brands as lead partner.

Prior to his three-tenure at Y&R, Caplan served as MD, business developement and integration at Kaplan Thaler Group and spent two years as president of Martin Interactive, a division of the Martin Agency.
