Mcgarrybowen And Verizon Go on Droid ‘Expedition’

By Michael Musco

Lets not talk of all the gidget gadget go go gadget arms jargon of what the new Droid X phone is and does rather; let’s talk about this spot instead. If you’re looking to get your nerd on and want to know all the specifics, head to Gizmodo.

To put it simply, this Noam Murro-directed spot got me! Usually within five seconds of an ad, I can nail which product is being demonstrated, the strategy and the payoff. This SOB had me clueless. As the spot begins, thoughts of an upcoming sci-fi flick or some Halo parody appeared in my mind. The outcome left me with a big WTF? It’s not an Alien 7 trailer. It’s for a phone!

Get your audience curious, intrigue them, throw them off and surprise them at the end. You accomplish all that and you’ve got yourself a good spot. The quality is that of a James Cameron film and I put my hands together to applaud Mcgarrybowen for pulling it off.
