Luvs Takes ‘Absolute Worst Ad in America’ (Dis)Honors

No need for a drum roll, really, as the headline basically reveals what was voted the “Absolute Worst Ad In America” in Consumerist’s second annual Worst Ad in America awards. Saatchi & Saatchi NY’s Luvs “Poop! There It Is” effort (above) racked up 32 percent of the votes (115,000 in all) in the “Absolute” category, which was one of nine in the Consumerist contest. The well-received campaign for the P&G brand beat out the likes of AT&T (which had two entries in the category), Summer’s Eve and Geico’s “Using Smartphones for Dumb Things” spot.

Other categories in the contest included “Most Grating Performance by a Human Being,” which went to AT&T’s “Flash Mob” guy and “Group That Ought To Go Their Separate Ways”, which in this case was the staff from the Esurance commercials that were created by Duncan/Channon.

Regarding the Worst Ad in America contest, Consumerist senior editor Chris Morran explains his struggle to get agencies involved (not surprised), saying, “The first year, I researched and comment-called every involved agency I could find. None would provide an official quote, though I did get yelled at for 90 minutes by a publicist from a top 5 agency who accused me of unfairly targeting their clients.”
