Kobe Hangs Out with the Other Michael Jordan in TBWA\Media Arts Lab’s Latest

“Where Wallace at? Where the boy, String?”

Don’t worry, D’Angelo. He’s hanging out with Kobe Bryant in the new Apple spot by TBWA\Media Arts Lab.

This one’s specifically promoting Apple TV, and it’s already got more than a million views since going live yesterday because somebody is retiring in the quietest, humblest possible way for a dude who never asked to be a hero. (That sounds kind of familiar, doesn’t it…)

We are very surprised to learn that Kobe wants all of his biographical materials to extremely flattering.

The above spot is the second in a series created to “[take] viewers behind the scenes and into the rarefied air of a Hollywood production trailer.” The first one involved Alison Brie trying and failing to make out with Jamie Lannister despite some aural assistance from one Jeremih, and the follow-up is all about showcasing how one can search for things on the new Apple TV very quickly with the help of Siri.

This is a nice addition to the product in question, because searching for stuff manually is pretty much the least efficient thing ever and it’s hard to believe that people who focus so obsessively on design/UX would be OK with such archaic functionality, ugh. But Apple, why did you specifically ensure that this product is almost completely incompatible with Spotify, Amazon Prime’s video player, and your own laptop’s mirroring function? (Just kidding, we know the answer. But don’t even try to say you didn’t do it on purpose.)

In other The Wire news, we didn’t realize that the Walking Dead character played by the actor who played D’Angelo had passed a year ago. RIP Bob…and did that show ever get good?
