Karmarama Bolsters Creative Department With Pair of Hires

By Erik Oster

Karmara made a pair of additions to its creative department with the hiring of creative director Cathy Hutton and head of design Simon Wakeman, Campaign reports. Both Hutton and Wakeman will report to chief creative officer Nik Studzinski, who joined the agency from Droga5 London last August

Hutton will work as part of a team including CRM specialist Jo Jenkins, working on Honda, which the agency won earlier this month, and other accounts. She joins Karmarama from Grey London, where she has served as creative director for the past year. Before that she spent a year and a half in that position with Lowe Profero and two years with Leo Burnett London before that. She has also spent time as a creative director with SapientNitro, freelanced with W+K and worked as a copywriter with WTCS, Bates Dorland, 4Creative and Leith Agency.

Wakeman replaces Mike Heath, the eight-year agency veteran who left Karmarama in January and will work across all of the agency’s accounts. He arrives from CP+B London, where he served as head of design for the past two years. Before joining CP+B, he worked as a freelance designer and art director with agencies including W+K London, CHI&Partners, Publicis London, IG Group, iris worldwide, Cheil Worldwide and RKCR/Y&R.

“I’m delighted that Cathy and Simon are joining the growing creative department here at Karmarama,” Studzinski told Karmarama. “In Cathy we have a incredibly progressive and talented, conceptual writer. And in Simon, our new head of design, we have one of the most talented designers in London. On top of that they both live up to our mandate to hire not only the most talented, creative people in the industry but the also the nicest.”
