Jennifer Aniston Is Still Richer Than You in New Emirates Campaign from WPP’s Team Air

By Patrick Coffee

So what has Jennifer Aniston been up to recently other than getting married and realizing that Friends is now THE hottest Netflix-and-chill jam among today’s social media-loving, New York-living youths (who almost certainly hadn’t even been born when the show first aired)?!

The answer, of course, is a sweet new gig as the celebrity spokesperson for Dubai-based Emirates Airlines.

In a new minute-long spot which debuted today, RKCR/Y&R of WPP’s Team Air (which won the business in August) recasts Aniston in her favorite role as Every Woman…or at least the kind of endlessly relatable female bro who only flies on planes with bars and full showers thanks to some help from her best friend, Disposable Income.

As the release puts it, Ms. Aniston “wakes up to comfort and luxury” on her fave flying machine. We like the implication that Emirates is more glamorous than every other Joe Public airline in the world, though Aniston does go a little hard on the sell here.

Of course, “Rachel” has some competition in the form of Nicole Kidman, or the celebrity face of Emirates competitor Etihad. That company (which recently signed Cheil Worldwide and The Barbarian Group for digital and social media marketing, respectively) launched a very different sort of ad by M&C Saatchi in March.

So one massive Middle Eastern airline is going for spunky best friend status while the other earns its hefty price tag by appealing to the high-minded snobs in the audience.

But does Emirates first-class service include private baths and personal butlers? And do fares start and end at $32,000 for a round-trip flight?! Check and mate.

Of course, these would all be that much more entertaining if Jen were competing with Angelina instead of Tom Cruise’s ex-wife.
