Insipiration From Days of Yore

By Matt Van Hoven

While there was Peace in Europe during WWI and WWII, English photographer Arthur S Mole and American John D Thomas were hired to produce the image you see above, and a series of others like it (which you can see here).

The rest of the collection includes images of the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and other iconic images. But for whatever reason, the Marines’ Eagle Globe and Anchor seems to embody the idea of the Marine Corps better than Lady Liberty does the American people (for example). Or any of the others. Art is advertising of the mind’s intricacies.
