Grey New York and the NFL Still Have a Soft Spot for Motley Crue

By Patrick Coffee

What sort of red-blooded American doesn’t love some Motley Fucking Crue?? We don’t mean the memoirs or the drug overdoses or the home movies. We mean the MUSIC, man.

No one? Cool.

Issues of taste and common decency aside, the NFL is OK with shitty, thankfully forgotten pop-metal bands. And they didn’t want to bother paying for “Welcome to the Jungle,” so here we go.

Michael Strahan always plays along, and the kids were fun. But who the hell knows any of the lyrics beyond the chorus? Most of these players were like negative 10 years old when the song came out.

So, we know the whole joke is that no one really likes this particular relic of coked up mid-80s VH1. But is it, really?? As Denis Leary said, like, 30 years ago: “Stevie Ray Vaughn is dead and we can’t get Bon Jovi near a helicopter? Come on, folks. ‘Get on that helicopter, John. Shut the fuck up and get on that helicopter! There’s a hairdresser in there.'”

Dude is still alive, and he’s still selling out arena shows in places that are nowhere near Woodbridge Township. Explain that bullshit.

We would really hate American football if it weren’t the best place to watch all the hot new ads.
