George Pace Leaves UM for Arnold

By Kiran Aditham

After spending nearly 18 months at Universal McCann, George Pace is heading to Boston come May 2 to take on the EVP, global brand director post at Arnold Worldwide. With his new title, Pace will lead the Dell account. During his time at UM, Pace was responsible for global media planning/buying for international clients including Microsoft. Prior to that, he served as a partner as ISMC and spent six years before that as managing director at Arc Worldwide. At the latter shop, Pace developed the agency’s global interactive offering and nabbed a Cannes Lion and two Clios in the process.

Regarding Dell, which awarded its small/mid-size business work to Arnold back in February, Pace says in a statement, “This assignment presents the ability to not only execute marketing programs, but to serve as a strategic partner to Dell and further elevate the brand.”

As for Universal McCann, we’ve been told by sources familiar with the matter that the agency is undergoing a “redeployment” of staff across the IPG/Mediabrands network following the loss of the Microsoft media business to Publicis/Starcom in March. The same sources, though, refute tipsters’ claims of massive layoffs at UM. While we continue to find out more about this story, we’ll leave you with this one spy’s comments from Friday in the meantime: “i just got fired from UM…WTF more to come  today.”
