Former AdAge Editor/Publisher Heads to 360i

Abbey Klaassen, who spent nearly a decade in editorial with the AdAge organization (parent company Crain’s), has moved ahead in the agency world with a new position: chief marketing officer at 360i.

The agency’s newest top marketer replaces fellow media veteran Amanda Bird Malko on October 1st; the departing CMO told Klassen’s former employer today that “the time is right to explore what’s next in her career.”

After serving as associate publisher of AdAge, Klaassen joined the Dentsu family last October as its director of corporate development and strategy.

At 360i, she will handle PR, marketing and business development, reporting to CEO and former journalist Sarah Hofstetter while working closely with VP of new business Ashleigh Young (who joined the agency last month after five years with Avon). Since Dentsu acquired 360i in 2010, this is not a completely surprising move for Klaassen.

It’s also worth noting that 360i recently developed its own crisis management practice and related software offering in an attempt to steal business from PR firms that teach brands how to recover from acts of idiocy on social media.

In other AdAge news, this summer saw the promotions of new editor Ken Wheaton, executive editor Nat Ives and managing editor Natalie Zmuda.
