FCB Chicago Promotes John Kenny to CSO

By Erik Oster

FCB Chicago announced the promotion of John Kenny from executive vice president, head of planning to chief strategy officer, filling a vacancy in that position.

Kenny arrived at the agency, then Draft, in 2005 as vice president, strategic planning. He worked his way up to senior vice president in September of 2006 and then executive vice president, head of planning in July 2012, leading global retail strategy for Nokia and new product development for MillerCoors along the way. Before joining the agency, Kenny spent time client-side, as vice president, planning for Diageo. Prior to that he spent three years with C&R Research as vice president of qualitative research.

“…there are some people who are great to work with, and there are some people who make the work great. John Kenny represents the best of both worlds,” said FCB Chicago CEO Michael Fassnacht and chief creative officer Todd Tilford, in a memo. “In the 10 years he’s been with the agency, the fundamentals of great brand building hasn’t changed, but how we get there has changed completely, thanks largely in part to John.”
