FCB Chicago Aims to ‘Keep Farts Funny’

By Erik Oster

FCB Chicago delights in flatulent humor in a new video for Meredith’s Miracles Colon Cancer Foundation entitled “Keep Farts Funny.”

Released for Colon Cancer Awareness Month, the spot offers “An Abridged Guide to Flatulence” documenting the terminology for some of the more common types of farts, following a brief introduction featuring an awkward one-gun salute in an elevator. These include the brief, loud “Blast Furnace,” self-explanatory “Rolling Thunder,” the trumpet-like “Horn of Jericho,” the rising “Spanish Wind,” the cough-accompanied “Cover-Up” and “The Long Goodbye.” To these we’d like to add the “Cranberry” (a fart that lingers) and the “Twitter Fart” (one that follows you).

After getting viewers attention with the roll call of wind-cutting, the spot gets to the message: “Farts are funny, but frequent gas and bloating may be symptoms of colon cancer,” asking viewers to know the symptoms and share the video. With colon cancer currently the number two cause of cancer death in the U.S., albeit one that is easily treatable  with early detection, that’s certainly an important message to spread.
