Energy BBDO Performs a ‘Bullet Hole Transplant’ for Off The Street Club

By Erik Oster Comment

2016 has been a tough year for Chicago, with violent crime up in the city, despite national trends in the opposite direction. No neighborhood is hit as hard by that violence as West Garfield Park, where Off The Street Club operates, providing “safety, education and encouragement to 3,000 children growing up in Chicago’s most violent neighborhood.”

To promote the charitable organization, Energy BBDO took an actual bullet hole from one of the club’s bulletproof windows and transplanted it. It will be displayed as part of a larger “Hope Is Tougher” campaign at Tribune Tower, alongside famous building fragments through October 25.

The display encourages viewers to visit HopeIsTougher.com, where they will learn the story of Warren, a 14-year-old resident of West Garfield Park who relies on Off The Street Club. “Every day I come here to have fun and go home happy,” he says.

“Bullet Hole Transplant” is a clever way to garner attention for the larger “Hope Is Tougher” effort and a worthy cause. In the above case study video you can see that visitors to Tribune Tower who otherwise may not have ever learned of the Off The Street Club are moved by Warren’s story, undoubtedly just one of the thousands of lives touched by the organization.
