Droga5 Goes Breakfast Watching in New IHOP Spot Directed by Eric Wareheim

By Erik Oster

Droga5 imagines a surreal take on bird watching in a new spot for IHOP, promoting the chain’s King’s Hawaiian French Toast with “Breakfast Watchers.”

The spot opens on a father and daughter donning binoculars out in the woods. “Wow, look at that beauty,” the father says, with the sound of a woodpecker in the background. But it’s no bird they’re observing, it’s pancakes. When they spot a rare item they’ve never seen before, they also learn they’re not the only breakfast watcher around.

The spot was shot by Eric Wareheim of Tim & Eric fame and ups the ante on Droga5’s offbeat approach for the brand. Droga5 introduced its first work for the brand back in January, after winning creative duties for IHOP last November following a review which saw the agency pitch against 72andSunny in its final stages.
