DraftFCB Takes Home Qwest

By SuperSpy

There ya’ go Draft! Good news is coming out of the often troubled shop. Qwest Communications selected Interpublic Group’s DraftFCB in Chicago to head up its creative account.

The history is a little tricky on this account. In 2002, the account belonged to DDB. Then, moved over to Draft. When Draft and FCB merged, last June, the merged company formed the new unit called Rivet so the Qwest business would not conflict with the agency’s Verizon business. Whew.

Anyway, Kim Whitehead, VP of consumer marketing at Qwest since 2006, said:

“DraftFCB was selected after a review that included an outstanding group of agencies.”

Hmm… she fails to mention who those agencies were. Anyone have any ideas?

Qwest is in need of some good PR considering that a federal judge sentenced Joseph P. Nacchio, the former chief executive of Qwest Communications International, to six years in prison in August. Wonder who the PR company is on that account…
