Dove Gives (False) Hope to Reporters Everywhere

By Kiran Aditham

The lathered chap you see in the ad above is New York Daily News staff writer Rich Schapiro, whose life was changed last May just by chatting on the phone while walking through Union Square. The reporter tells the tale in his own paper about how one day, he was approached by a casting director in the Manhattan neighborhood and the next he was in Paris playing model for a new line of Dove skin products for men.

In between a handful of (rather unnecessary) mentions of his dry nipples, Schapiro manages to twist the knife further by boasting about fancy meals, a boat trip along the Seine and a day at the Four Seasons spa, adding, “‘Model’ isn’t the first (or the 10th, or the 100th) word that most people associate with newspaper reporters.” No shit. Somewhere, Mike Lupica has to be fuming.
