CP+B L.A. Names New Co-Managing Directors

By Patrick Coffee

Crispin Porter + Bogusky continued its restructuring today with the promotion of Ivan Perez-Armendariz and Ryan Skubic to the shared role of managing director in its Los Angeles office.

Their predecessor Mason Reed, who moved to L.A. to manage the office back in 2012, is leaving to join an unnamed new startup.

Perez-Armedariz has been with CP+B since 2008, when the agency acquired his company texturemedia. He was promoted to become the agency’s first CDO in 2012 after holding various titles within the production department and credited with leading such projects as the mobile/web design for Jimmy Fallon and the Domino’s “buy your pizza online” work.

ryan cpbSkubic rises to the managerial level on the accounts side. Over the past 12 years, he’s worked in all three of the agency’s North American offices and handled accounts such as NBA2K, Windows, Nike, VW and Schwab.

This news follows the re-hiring of former VP and group account director Devin Reiter (who was with McCann) to run the agency’s Boulder office along with Danielle Whalen. (Partner and vice chairman Jeff Steinhour currently fills that role in Miami after Carter Nance left to join GSD&M.) It also re-casts a team led by W+K vet Kevin Jones, who joined the agency in late 2014 and now serves as CD and “industry thought leader.”

The shared managerial model seems to be a pattern at Crispin. From the press release:

“In both offices, organic growth and recent new business wins created the opportunity for an additional Managing Director, ensuring that MD’s are able to work very closely with all brands and businesses within the agency.”

The departing MD Reed has good things to say about his time with Crispin:

“The last 13 years at CP+B have been nothing short of amazing.

Ryan and Ivan are two close friends of mine…Their combination of experience, expertise and leadership abilities, alongside Benny Thomas and Kevin Jones, ensure that the office will be even more successful than it already has been, and I look forward to seeing what they will accomplish together.”

Global CEO Lori Senecal also has good things to say about Reed, though she doesn’t mention Skubic or Perez-Armendariz by name:

“Mason has done a remarkable job establishing and rapidly growing our LA office.  We know he will now do the same in his new entrepreneurial venture and we look forward to watching him bring his exciting idea to life. To further the momentum in LA, our new Managing Director team puts account leadership and technology at the center of the agency.”

So more tech, less advertising.

For some reason, the release doesn’t include quotes from either of the guys who just got promoted. Go figure.
