According to a high-level source, BBDO has produced a spot for Starbucks that will run tomorrow. The ad is Starbucks’ attempt to urge Americans to get out and vote on Tuesday. As a reward, they’re giving away a free cup of coffee to everyone who does so.
News of the spot, which comes today via a source close to the matter, is yet another indication that Starbucks will choose BBDO as its AoR. Recall that in late September, the coffee maker dropped incumbent W+K, and is increasingly under the gun to make a comeback. In a recent blind taste-test, Americans (according to Dunkin’ Donuts) chose DD coffee over Starbucks.
For Starbs, the giveaway may bring in some new shoppers, and for BBDO it’s a chance to show off their might — and potentially lock-down the account (though we’ve received many anonymous tips indicating the deal is done). We’ve contacted Starbucks and BBDO, many times, in hopes of getting a confirmation but according to company representatives Starbucks has yet to make its decision.
