BBDO likes its candy a little dirty.
That’s what we take from the agency’s latest work for M&M’s, in which the spicy red variety of chocolate covered chocolate might just come between a man and his wife.
The press release tells us that Mars sees the work as “part comedy, and part soap opera” and that vp of marketing Berta de Pablos-Barbier hopes it will remind viewers “how it’s even more fun to share M&M’S Chocolate Candies versus keeping them all for yourself.”
While the ad leaves details of the relationship between Liz and Red unexplored, we know that he’s not a victim of one particular problem afflicting so many middle-aged men because he melts in your mouth, not in your hand.
We also like how the ad addresses an issue that has threatened to destroy many a marriage: the clear establishment and maintenance of personal space.
What, you thought we meant infidelity?
