Mustache Launches Effort for The Climate Reality Project Ahead of COP21 Conference

By Erik Oster

With the COP21 conference in Paris coming up on the 30th, and following a recent investigation suggesting Exxon was aware of climate change as early as 1977, Mustache has released a slew of new videos in support of Al Gore‘s The Climate Reality Project with video series including “World’s Easiest Decision,” “Good News News,” “For the Love of…” and “Kids Explain It.”

“World’s Easiest Decision” is presented as a game show, in which contestants make easy decisions like choosing between exploring a vibrant coral reef and a desolate coral wasteland. As the title suggests “Good News News” keeps things positive, with the news segment sharing recent good news about green innovations and successes in climate change advocacy. One such video (above), reports on the trend of big banks cutting credit for the coal industry and investing in green energy, something all but the most delusional climate change deniers could agree is “good news.” “Kids Explain It” features children simplifying and explaining some hotly debated and/or confusing aspects of climate change in an entertaining way.

There’s a surprising amount of (bleeped out) cursing and an overly-enthusiastic delivery reminiscent of Jim Kramer. Both “Good News News” and “Kids Explain It” are a notable departure from the typical emotional pleas (understandably) associated with this issue, perhaps in an effort to reach those who brush aside such tactics. “For the Love of…” plays on the expectation of such an approach, with odes to things that may be lost to climate change in the future, such as coffee, sweaters and avocados. In addition to their home on YouTube, the video series are hosted on on www.WorldsEasiestDecision.org, where visitors can find further information about climate change and learn what they can do to help.
