360i Introduces ‘Wiener Rover’ for Oscar Mayer

By Erik Oster

360i launched a campaign for Oscar Mayer, offering an update of the brand’s trademark Wienermobile with the new “Wiener Rover.”

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile made its debut all the way back in 1936, but it’s always been missing something. While the vehicle gave out free Wiener Whistles to passers-by in the past, it never carried hot dogs…until now. Enter the Wiener Rover, “an all-terrain hot dog on heavy-duty wheels” which will deliver hot dogs to fans (or just people unwilling to turn down a free hot dog) across the country. Oscar Mayer’s new Wienermobile rolls out today, which happens to be National Hot Dog Day. The remote-controlled, battery-powered vehicle can be seen in-action in the video above, where it goes off road to tackle grass, dirt, sand and rocks while a hard rock band sings a song with lyrics reiterating the on-screen action. The vehicle makes its debut in New York today, and city-dwellers can follow @OscarMayer on Twitter to track its location and score themselves a free meat tube. It will then travel to “other hot dog-loving cities” across the country.

“We consistently hear that people are hungry for a hot dog after they see the Wienermobile, but we have never been able to offer them the deliciousness they desire,” said Corey Rudd, senior associate brand manager at Oscar Mayer. “We developed the Wiener Rover to go where no Wienermobile has gone before to surprise and delight our loyal fans at their local parks, beaches, festivals and beyond.”

A friendly reminder from Martin Prince: “The preferred spelling of wiener is W-I-E-N-E-R, although E-I is an acceptable ethnic variant.”
