15th Annual Webby Award Nominees Announced

By Bob Marshall

For the past 15 years, the Webby Awards have honored the best (or, as some argue, the worst) of the Internet in categories ranging from “Best Weird” to “Best Viral Video” to “Best Retail.” And, just like last year, the Webbys called upon Jake and Amir from Collegehumor.com to star in the nominee video.

But, of course, this is AgencySpy, so you’re probably interested in what from the world of advertising and marketing made the list of nominees. In the Interactive Advertising: Viral category, there’s “Mad Men Yourself” (Deep Focus) going head-to-head with odds-on favorite, the Old Spice Response Campaign (W+K). The Old Spice Response Campaign is also nominated in the “Best Use of Social Media” against “Pay With a Tweet” (R/GA) and the “Pepsi Refresh Project” (HUGE). The Old Spice campaign is in a tie for first place with three nominations along with “A Hunter Shoots a Bear” (BUZZMAN) and followed in second place by “Toyota Sienna’s Swagger Wagon” (Saatchi & Saatchi LA) with two nominations.

Finally, with 10 nominations, GS+P is the front runner for the Agency of the Year award followed by R/GA (9), Ogilvy (8), DDB (6), BBDO NY (6), Saatchi and Saatchi (5) and TBWA (5). Congrats to the nominees, and a full list of the categories and noms is available here.
