’10 Year Old Stumps NFL Stars’ for NBC Sports

By Erik Oster

NBC Sports launched a spot celebrating the tenth anniversary of NBC Sunday Night Football, entitled “10 Year Old Stumps NFL Stars.”

As the title would lead you to believe, the three minute video features a ten-year-old student named Isabella Day interviewing NFL stars, including Kam ChancellorAndrew LuckClay MatthewsOdell Beckham Jr.Demarco Murray and Patrick Peterson. She opens up each interview with a series of soft ball questions, like what each player eats before a game and what superpower they wish they had. Around the halfway pint, the gloves come off as Day says “Alright, enough small talk,” before asking Luck “Are spread offenses to blame for the small number of quarterbacks being selected in this year’s draft?” much to his disbelief. She asks the same question of the other players, followed by another tough one, which stumps many of the stars. It’s kind of a one joke approach, and while it’s a good one it could have easily been delivered in half the ad’s runtime, as the leadup to the tough questions really takes its time. Still, NFL fans, especially those with children, should find it entertaining enough, and there’s a brand specific question about each player’s favorite Sunday Night Football moment to remind viewers of the program’s anniversary. NBC’s Sunday Night Football kicks off with a Thursday presentation of the Steelers versus the Patriots on September 10.
