The Ad Council has named Y&R global chief executive officer David Sable as chair of its board of directors.
Sable succeeds Mattel CEO and former Google president Margo Georgiadis in the role. Among other responsibilities, Sable will chair the organization’s largest fundraising event this fall, the Ad Council’s 2017 Public Service Award Dinner.
“David Sable’s expertise in the advertising industry and integrated communications is unparalleled, and his dedication for giving back has been unwavering,” said Ad Council president and CEO Lisa Sherman in a statement. “David and Y&R have been longtime supporters of the Ad Council, lending extraordinary talent and time to many critical issues facing our country. We’re thrilled he is taking this leadership role on our board.”
Sable joined the organization’s board of directors in 2011 and became a member of its executive committee two years later.
“This is a singular and spectacular honor,” Sable said in a statement. “Throughout my career in the industry, the parallel thread and passion for me has been my involvement in the nonprofit world. I believe everyone has the capacity to help change the world. The Ad Council plays an extraordinary role in our industry—the organized social conscience of our industry—and it has made a huge and tangible difference to the lives of so many people across so many sectors of American society. … I am ready to begin and will enlist the help of our industry at every level to further its cause.”
Sable has served as Y&R’s global CEO since early 2011. In addition to his role at the agency, he has served on multiple Cannes Lions juries, including as a jury president and as director at large of the 4A’s.
