R/GA is expanding into Germany with a new office in Berlin, the agency announced today.
The IPG network’s 19th global outpost will be located in the Kulturbrauerei hub of Berlin’s Kollwitz neighborhood and led by former Razorfish executive Sascha Martini, who serves as managing director, effective April 1. He will be tasked with driving R/GA’s growth in Germany, shaping the office’s long-term strategy, overseeing talent recruitment and driving new business efforts in the region while reporting to R/GA executive vice president, managing director, EMEA Matt Lodder.
“Sascha’s rich history in digital transformation and proven track record in helping the German c-suite innovate and create new business opportunities made him absolutely the right fit for us,” Lodder said in a statement.
“We plan to grow our operations in Germany over the next 18 months significantly, establishing an executive leadership team and building out a full suite of R/GA capabilities for C-level clients in Germany that are looking to capitalize on the disruption of technology,” he added. “Sascha’s hire is a significant first step in that evolution.”
“This is an extremely exciting new chapter in the history of R/GA and I can’t wait to start building the team here in Berlin,” Martini said.
Martini previously served as CEO in Germany since July of 2013, following nearly five years as managing director for the region. Prior to joining Razorfish, he spent five years with Bassier, Bergmann & Kindler, serving as account director on Porsche and then CEO.
In its announcement, R/GA cited, “the rich heritage the city shares with R/GA in design, creativity and innovation,” as one reason it decided to open an office in the city, as well as Berlin’s startup culture and its existing relationship with Nike’s German operations.
R/GA London will remain the agency’s central hub for the EMEA region, with the Berlin office acting as “a full service partner for clients in Germany looking to transform their businesses through the agencies unique approach to consulting, communications, strategy, design and technology” as well as a way to attract new business in the country.
