McCann North America snagged Droga5’s Sean Lackey to fill a newly-created position, chief growth officer, as the agency looks to grow its footprint nationwide.
“Sean is the most natural hunter. He does really well opening doors, and he did a good job getting clients without pitching them,” Chris MacDonald, president of McCann Worldgroup North America, said.
At Droga5, Lackey was the head of business development and, according to McCann, he was responsible for building up the clientele and capabilities for David Droga’s agency, contributing more than $120 million in additional revenue over the last four years.
MacDonald said Lackey, taking part in McCann’s roughly three-month hiring process, was chosen from “a long list of people” eager to join the award-winning agency. McCann touted Lackey for his “infectious energy” and MacDonald described him to Adweek as “just a decent, honest human.”
“I have always believed that creativity is a business driver for our client partners,” Lackey said in a statement. “I’m very excited to join the team and help them grow, both with existing and new client opportunities.”
Lackey joins McCann North America as one of its offices, McCann New York, finishes off an outstanding year of accolades. McCann New York won five top Grand Clios nods last week—in Branded Content, Events/Experiential, Innovation, Out of Home and Public Relations—for its iconic “Fearless Girl” campaign for State Street Global Advisors. The campaign, which instantly became a hit on Wall Street in March when it debuted in Bowling Green Park, also took home four Grand Prix at Cannes Lions and led McCann New York to receive Agency of the Year.
At McCann, Lackey will help expand the agency’s predominantly New York presence across the U.S., with a particular focus on boosting business on the West Coast and in the Midwest. Outside of New York, MacDonald said Detroit and Canada are two well-performing areas within its North American region.
Before Droga5, Lackey held business development and client management roles at BBDO for five years. He also previously worked in account management at Gotham, a leg of McCann Worldgroup’s parent company, Interpublic Group.
During the past few years, McCann has added clients such as HomeGoods, MGM Resorts, Verizon, Coca-Cola and Chevrolet.
