Today Publicis Groupe’s digital division, Publicis.Sapient, named Nigel Vaz as global president of agency DigitasLBi. The agency’s former global CEO, Luke Taylor, resigned from his role making room for Vaz’s promotion.
Vaz currently leads Publicis.Sapient in Europe and Asia and will continue to manage those regions in his new position.
“I’m thrilled to step into this role to both strengthen DigitasLBi’s position as a marketing partner and to create the highest levels of collaboration and organizational agility across all brands within Publicis.Sapient,” Vaz said in a statement.
Vaz kicked off his career at Sapient in 2000, prior to Publicis Groupe’s $3.7 billion acquisition of SapientNitro in 2014. Following the acquisition, in 2015, Vaz became CEO of Publicis agency Razorfish’s Europe, Middle East and Africa operations and global chief strategy officer for Sapient. After the massive restructuring of Publicis Groupe that kicked off in 2015, and the formation of Publicis.Sapient, Vaz was elevated to CEO EMEA and APAC for Publicis.Sapient (comprised of DigitasLBi, SapientRazorfish and Rosetta).
In the new role, Vaz will report up to co-CEOs Alan Wexler and Chip Register. Wexler is also the CEO of SapientRazorfish and Register acts as CEO of Sapient Consulting.
According to Wexler, one of Vaz’s main tasks as global president of DigitasLBi will be to help clients “access capabilities and talent across our brands in order to deliver the outcomes at the speed they require.”
Publicis Groupe chairman and CEO Maurice Levy, who recently announced Arthur Sadoun as his successor effective June 1, said in statement: “I thank Luke warmly for his contributions to our development. He has helped grow our business and innovate in new areas, and I wish him success in his future endeavors. With this nomination, we are completing the reorganization and the governance of our digital and technology assets under Publicis.Sapient and the leadership of co-CEO’s Alan Wexler and Chip Register. I am sure that Nigel, with his strategic vision, will create a new momentum for DigitasLBi and build new growth.”
