Uncle Rico gets his moment in the sun

JongriesThe most anticipated promotional appearance by a second-tier Napoleon Dynamite character at an Arena Football League match in the Midwest this spring will undoubtedly be that of Uncle Rico, aka Jon Gries, who will visit the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, for Dynamite Night, presented by Pepsi, on March 10. This is for Columbus Destroyers fans who may turn their noses up at Nascar Night (Jan. 29) or Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Night (Feb. 11). They’ll also be giving away free “Vote for Pedro” T-shirts. It’s unclear what Gries, the star of such movies as Real Genius, Fright Night 2 and the forthcoming Car Babes, will be asked to do at the game, beyond repeating (and maybe trying to act out) his signature line from the movie: “Back in ’82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.”
