Sony ad is thorn in Catholics’ side

Playstation_1Even without pressure from Mel Gibson personally, Sony has pulled an ad in Italy showing a kid wearing a crown of thorns twisted into the PlayStation logo along with the headline, “Ten years of passion”—celebrating PlayStation’s 10-year anniversary. (See a photo of the ad here.) Needless to say, Catholics are upset. “This time they’ve gone too far,” the editor of Famiglia Cristiana tells the Corriere della Sera newspaper, according to Reuters. “If this had concerned Islam there would have been a really strong reaction.” Sony Computer Entertainment Italia said the “spirit of the message was misunderstood” and nixed the ad.
