A sad farewell to Chrysler’s Dr. Z spots
While gearheads sort out what the Chrysler buyout means for the auto industry, AdFreak laments that we presumably won’t be seeing more commercials in which Dieter Zetsche, mustachioed chairman of DaimlerChrysler, tries to look like he’s having fun while interacting with assorted American yahoos—one of the all-time-great spectacles in cross-cultural communication. (A Web site called leftlanenews.com has a batch of Chrysler’s “Ask Dr. Z” spots posted here.) You’ll want to pay a farewell visit to Chrysler’s askdrz.com Web site, in which an animated version of Zetsche does its best to be ingratiating. We shall not see its like again.
